DESCRIPTION
The Sungai Selangor dam forms part of the Sungai Selangor Phase 3 Scheme. The reservoir is located in the headwaters of Sungai Selangor. Releases will be made in conjunction with the existing Tinggi reservoir (Previously known as Sungai Buloh reservoir). The releases will enable a total of 3000 Mld to be abstracted from the river. This is 1100 Mld more than the existing yield of the river.
The dam comprises:
- a 110 m high rockfill embankment with central clay core with a total of embankment volume about 8 mcm including a 90 m earthfill buttress
- a 7 m diameter x 400 m long horseshoe diversion tunnel
- a 9 m internal diameter wet wall shaft 110 m high with twin 2.2 m diameter outlet pipes and discharges valves through the diversion tunnel
- a 125 m spillway weir with 30 m wide side chute and plunge pool
- miscellaneous buildings
- The impounding reservoir has a gross storage of 235 mcm and surface of 600 ha.
