COMMONWEALTH GAMES FACILITIES, NATIONAL SPORTS COMPLEX, SWIMMING COMPLEX
The Swimming Complex is one of the facilities of the National Sports Complex. It has been constructed according to the stringent standards and requirements of the International Swimming Federation (FINA).
The complex was completed in July 1998 in time for the Commonwealth Games in September 1998.
The pools are all outdoor with the 8-lane competition pool having varying depth from 2 m to 3 m. It can also be used for water polo. The diving pool (25 m x 25 m) has a water depth of 5 m and is equipped with all the required diving facilities such as the 1, 2, 3, 5, 7.5 and 10 m platforms and the 1 m and 3 m springboards. A special underwater bubbling system is provided for safe training and to cure the water surface during diving competitions.
There is also a 5-lane training pool situated directly adjacent to the competition pool measuring 12.5 m x 50 m with a water depth of 1.8 m. The permanent east facing spectator stand has a seating capacity of 3,000.
A moving floor system that costs RM3 million was later added and completed in 2003. The system enables the depth of the swimming pool to be adjusted according to the requirements of a particular water sports event.
SMHB was involved in the mechanical and electrical design of the swimming complex, the civil and structural design and the subsequent supervision of construction, testing and commissioning of the Bukit Jalil National Swimming Complex.
