GEOTECHNICAL & DAMS

SMHB is particularly recognised in Malaysia for our expertise in the design and construction supervision of various types of dams including earthfill and rockfill dams with central clay core, concrete-faced rockfill dams, mass concrete dams and roller compacted concrete dams. We have designed and supervised the construction of more than 40 dams and off-river storages in Malaysia.

Our dam designs are developed and optimised based on detailed geotechnical and hydrological investigations, to suit prevailing site conditions. We also tailor the design of the associated structures such as spillways and draw-off towers as well as the mechanical, electrical and control systems accordingly.

With our experience and wide range of skills, we are capable of carrying out independent inspections on existing dams to determine their condition and safety. We also conduct dam break and related risk assessment studies and provide designs for the raising of existing dams or dam rehabilitation where necessary.

SMHB has also completed numerous geotechnical related projects including tunnelling, soil improvements, various foundations deep and shallow, various soil retaining structures, deep excavation and slope stability treatments. Our team of engineers and geologists are capable of carrying out geotechnical design, study and assessment supporting and complementing in-house projects and also providing clients with consultation services on geotechnical specific jobs.
