RAUB TO BENTONG (PACKAGE 5) OF THE CENTRAL SPINE ROAD
DESCRIPTION
Package 5 of the Central Spine Road covers a stretch of approximately 45 km involving FR8 roads to be upgraded into a 2-lane dual carriageway and R5 standard.
The work comprises 2 parts:
Part 1: Upgrading & widening of existing Federal Route 8 between Raub and Bentong from 2 to 4 lanes
Part 2: Construction of new 4-lane bypass roads for Raub and Bentong towns.
The entire length of the Spine Road is about 380 km. Total length of Package 5 is 54 km.
A feasibility study report will be prepared for Part 2 which includes schematic design, town planning/landuse assessment, socio-economic assessment, environmental impact assessment (EIA), preparation of Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and traffic study.
The upgrading and widening works include earthworks, slope protection, drainage, bridges, lightings, traffic signals, road furniture and temporary works necessary for traffic diversion during construction and rest area and associated facilities. Scope also includes relocation of existing utilities and services affected by the road upgrading works and the new proposed bypasses.
Road safety audits will be carried out at schematic, detail design, construction and operational stages in accordance to JKR requirements.
